The refined style of Mitchelton reflects the fine balance struck by the winemaking team – a fluid combination of science and instinct.
Winemaker Travis Clydesdale aims to prise the best from Mitchelton's vineyards to craft distinctive wines from the highest quality estate grown grapes. A river dweller at heart, Travis has developed an intimate understanding of the estate vineyard and its immersing river presence, honing the earthy subtleties of Mitchelton wines.
The hallmark of Travis’s winemaking is his considered and thoughtful approach coupled with a genuine passion for innovation. A graduate in Oenology from Charles Sturt University, Travis spent his early winemaking years across the Goulburn River at Tahbilk, and more recently has honed his craft at Deep Woods Estate in the Margaret River. In a sense it is a home-coming and re-connection of a life-long relationship for Travis with Mitchelton. Travis’s father Mark has been the Mitchelton Cellar Manager for 30 years and many early childhood memories revolve around times spent with his father at the winery. Travis sees the estate’s unique climate and geological diversity as an inspiring and ideal environment to forge new pathways in winemaking. With hands firmly embedded in the rich dirt of Central Victoria, Travis is committed to unfolding the intricate layers of this special site and endeavouring to express its distinct and defining attributes through the wines.
